Every year that summer
rolls around I always wake up in the morning with some kind of calm nostalgic
feeling. It’s already begun this year and I have yet to finish my last final. Summer
really is my favorite part of the year- it gives me good memories that my body
keeps all on its own without much help from me. I really like the damp
early mornings. I used to sit in them every day on the baseball field bleachers
at my high school waiting for my best friend. I used to watch them it from inside
my house when I was younger while my dad turned on the Vietnamese music he
loved on the loud stereos he loved and my mom looked through the refrigerator
for something to make for breakfast.
I like the humid nights
when the only thing you can hear are those incessant crickets and, on the East
Coast, you can watch the fireflies in the dark. I like the feeling of the
A/C when you just turn it on and I do not like the suffocating feeling I always
get when it’s really hot and humid.
I like the beach. There
was a couple days two summers ago where I sat there in the morning reading Crime
and Punishment and watching the surfers in the water waiting to catch a wave thinking
man, that’d be cool to be out there too. I went there a lot with my best friend
too. I really like the beach. Man, I’m especially looking
forward to this summer. With work and luck, I’ll finally get to travel outside
this country to Japan
and hear if the crickets there are as loud and see if the fireflies are as bright as
they are here. |
